Customized solutions for large crankshafts
In the case of large crankshafts such as are found in ship's engines, the size of the engine component that will be created can be guessed even from the tool that will be used.
The external milling cutters, which are fitted with indexable inserts, are more than two meters across. Even the internal cutters required for fiber-flow and hammer-forged shafts have a diameter of about one and a half meters. The capability of these enormous and valuable tools is guaranteed by LMT partner Boehlerit. The customizing of each solution extends from initial conception through to commissioning the tool system. Their indexable inserts incorporate cutting materials and geometries specially developed for this application. The modification and modernization of existing tools for large crankshafts is also part of the service package.
