LMT at EMO 2011 – Experience Performance Live

Faster, more efficient, more flexible – ever increasing demands are being made when it comes to the machining of modern production materials. At EMO 2011 the companies of the LMT Group will be demonstrating numerous ways of raising the productivity of existing production processes in Hall 4, Booth E54.
One of our highlights at EMO 2011: modular tap XChange

The LMT Group will be presenting a large number of technological innovations at this year’s EMO fair. What is particularly interesting for users is the fact that these LMT tool innovations have a direct impact on cost-effectiveness – without the need for additional investments.

SpeedCore: Over 30% performance increase in hobbing

SpeedCore is a new generation hob whose intermetallic cutting material enables significantly higher cutting speeds than conventional PM-HSS substrates. The result is a 30 to 50% increase in productivity simply by changing hobs.

Nanosilver: Up to 200% longer tool life

LMT is presenting a new cutting material that has been specially developed by its alliance partner Boehlerit for milling applications. A nanostructured coating has been applied to three new carbide substrates. Tool life is increased by at least 40% – and up to 200% in some applications.

TeraSpeed: High-speed machining of cast material

The new TeraSpeed coating substantially improves the performance of LMT indexable inserts. The aluminium titanium nitride coating system offers a exceptionally high level of thermal resistance of up to 1,100 degrees Celsius – 200 degrees higher than comparable coatings. This facilitates performance increases of 100% in face milling applications and even 200% in step milling applications.

XChange: Modular tap with internal cooling

The XChange threading tap combines the advantages of carbide and high-speed steel: equipped for internal cooling, the tool is capable of twice the cutting speed of a conventional HSS tap. Cycle times and machine costs are substantially reduced as a result.

Protec: Thread rollers last up to 30% longer

Thread-rolling involves a roller forming threads on the workpiece under enormous pressure. Since the entire surface of the tool is used, this process generates a completely different kind of stress than that generated by cutting techniques. LMT is presenting the world’s first coating for thread rollers in the shape of Protec, an innovation that will expand the range of thread-rolling applications. The elastic and flexible thin-film coating has been specially designed for processing hard materials and increases tool life by up to 30%.

Composites: Materials of the future

LMT is pooling more than 50 years of experience in the machining of composite materials as part of its Composite Excellence initiative. Fibre-reinforced and sandwich composites in particular present new challenges for cutting tools when it comes to preventing pull-out, fibre protrusion and delamination. LMT offers the most extensive tool range on the market in this area.

Additional products, such as new tools for die and mould making, will also celebrate their world premieres at EMO. Starting 1 September you will find information about the LMT fair program at http://lmt.e-convention.net/, selected highlights will also be broadcast there live from 19 – 23 September.
